Breaking the dictator’s information blockade

Vision North leverages emerging, context-specific technologies such as nano sim cards and satellite devices to facilitate the flow of information into and out of North Korea.

The North Korean regime enforces a strict information blockade, isolating its citizens from the outside world. This blockade is a deliberate strategy to prevent the population from accessing alternative perspectives. Information challenging the regime’s narrative is strictly prohibited, with severe penalties for those caught consuming or sharing such content. These harsh measures highlight the regime’s deep fear of external information undermining its control.

Access to the free flow of information is a fundamental human right. North Koreans continue to seek foreign media to support their lives and understand the outside world despite these dangers. Vision North’s members, having experienced the transformative power of external information firsthand, recognize its crucial role. Our mission is to provide safer and more effective means for North Koreans to access and share information.

In collaboration with technologists, Vision North employs technologies suitable for addressing North Korea’s unique challenges.

Equally important is sharing information from within North Korea to expose human rights violations and drive international pressure for change.

This dual approach—using modern technologies to inform both North Koreans and the international community—is essential for promoting human rights and fostering positive change in the country.
